Using raffia and banana stalk locally known as “bukeddo”to create these coiled woven baskets, the ladies weaving skill is traditionally passed on to children at the tender age of 9 years from mother/ grandmother.

A light fibre, raffia is removed from a long palm-like leaf usually grown in the forests and is an ideal material for basket weaving and can be dyed into almost any color. Bukeddo is harvested from the banana plantations. The weaver starts from the center  of the basket working her way out , true mastery!!>

The finished pieces are still today used for fruit gathering, food preparations or given away as wedding gifts.
